Yesterday we were at Crescent Lake, and it reminded me that I had a recent photo of Seven Seas that I’d wanted to share, from a trip there with Maddox that I’d taken one day he’d had off school. We wanted to get out of the house for a bit, so we had lunch at Captain Cook’s and Dole Whips at Pineapple Lanai and then walked the beach a little before coming home.
It was super overcast, which actually made for a clearer view over the water toward Magic Kingdom, and you can see so much in just this one shot. On the far left, of course, is the Grand Floridian. Then the monorail peeking out on the track. Then, farther into the foreground, one of the water taxis running the Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Magic Kingdom loop.
Then back into the distance, you can see a few anonymous strangers walking the path between the Grand Floridian and Magic Kingdom and, along the tree line, the castle, the Main Street train station’s Disney flag, and two American flags popping above the tree line from Main Street. If you look carefully, you can even follow Tinker Bell’s path from the castle turret to below the tree line.
And those are actually two islands in the foreground. The closer one is Beachcomber, and behind it, sort of blending in, you can see Castaway Cay. (Yes, same name as the DCL private island.) Off the shore of Beachcomber, underwater, there’s an old abandoned wave machine that was once used to make surfable waves. It was abandoned at least in part because the waves were eroding the white sand beaches at Poly.
Castaway Cay originally had three tall cypress trees that stood out during land clearing. The landscaping crew named them Roy, Donn, and Card after Walt Disney Productions’ then three top executives, Roy O. Disney, Donn Tatum, and Card Walker. Lightning supposedly set the trees on fire several years later.
The wind was whipping around, making the water crash in tiny waves against the rock line.
Goes to show how different two water views around here can be.
