1-Day Listing: Festival [Feb 5th only]

Do you have a common “okay my body and brain are finally registering that we’re here” moment when you first start your trip? The little stuff around the parks or your favorite resort that put you right into “Disney-mode”? Before we lived here, and honestly still now, Festival of Fantasy has been that for me.

Before we lived here, Magic Kingdom would almost always be our first park and we somehow always timed it to be rolling in when this parade was happening. We were never in a huge hurry. Never really “rope droppers,” even then, so we’d sleep some, have a little breakfast, enjoy the resort a little, and then roll into Magic Kingdom early afternoon. Or I guess that’s how the days must have played out, because somehow we were almost always walking in the gates and down Main Street in the midst of this parade. And I’d hear the music and see the over the top floats and costumes and my brain would click into magic mode—you know what I mean.

And even now, if I run over to the park in the afternoon with the kids or while they’re at school, it’s often during this parade and I have this moment where I register all over again that I am less than 2 miles as the crow flies from my front door and this wildly over the top parade with its iconic music is rolling through Frontierland (even closer to my house by a few feet, I think) and down Main Street, U.S.A. while thousands of people watch. And I’m running in for a cupcake and to take some pictures before I go grocery shopping. It’s a weird sort of dichotomy and one of the cooler things about living here. The ability to "pop in" and that moment when you remember how crazy your afternoon outing is.

In any event, not a complicated picture, settings-wise. I just aimed to capture the colors and energy of the Festival in a sort of faceless, anonymous way. Shot at 70mm and cropped, 1/320 sec, f/5.6, ISO 100. Edited in Lightroom.

This print will stay up in the shop until around 10 p.m. (Eastern) tonight (February 5th), at which point it will be de-listed from the shop in these formats.
