I spent a lot of hours wandering the ship late at night or early in the morning during our cruise, when people were scarce and I could get the best pictures without the crowds. On this morning, I set my alarm for 5:30 a.m. and wandered the Grand Hall for a bit (images to come) before heading up to the topmost deck, toward the aft, or back of the ship, to look east as the sun first peeked over the horizon. I couldn't have picked a better morning. The sky was on fire, and the smattering of clouds only added to the view.
There were a few of us up there, most just watching, me with my camera. No one spoke. It was a perfect start to the day.
Taken at 35mm and later cropped in, 1/800 second, f/1.6—took some more stopped down but ended up liking this the most, ISO 100. The lightest of edits to bring it in line with what I saw with my own eyes.
