I said I was going to EPCOT soon, and yesterday was that day. It's been unusually chilly here. Overnight lows in the 30s and highs in the 50s...but yesterday I bundled up a little and headed over for a few hours in the afternoon with my camera. It was packed. Between the opening of Festival of the Arts and MLK Day, not to mention that it was a "no reservation needed" day at all four parks, it seemed like everyone had descended on World Showcase.
This wasn't the worst thing in the world, as it forced me off the beaten track, away from the crowds around the lagoon and into some of the less visited parts of the pavilions and (the artist formerly known as) Future World. I miss having an easy way to refer to that half of the park.
I don't spend enough time in the Italy pavilion and plenty of you tell me that. Truth told, in daylight hours it doesn't have my favorite sightlines for photography. The tower stands so high over everything else that I wrestle a bit with any sort of all-encompassing view. The devil is in the details here, though. Even with yesterday's crowds, areas like this were quiet. You could visit the pavilion a dozen times and never notice that these little side nooks exist, but the colors and the lines and the way the light hits make spots like this my favorite part. I'd invite you to grab a slice at the pizza window and sit on the curb here and just take a moment away from the chaos.
