Toy Soldiers (September 12th)

Ever since I decided that this daily photos project would extend indefinitely, past the month of February when it started, I've been looking forward to the seemingly infinite possibilities that will come with the holidays. But while we wait for that, I thought it might be fun to indulge a little from time to time, as the winter months get closer, in Disney's holidays of the past. And nothing says "Disney's holidays of the past" like the dream lights.

I'll be honest. I don't think they're coming back. They might prove me wrong, and I hope they do—after all, they're bringing back our grey castle. But everything about castle projections is cheaper and less disruptive than the lights and I just don't see them turning around at this point and giving us this view again.

So I cherish pictures like this, even if they were taken 5+ years and several cameras ago. I can tell exactly where I was standing, feel that rare cool December breeze, and hear the clomp clomp clomp of the toy soldiers' feet in the parade.

Took this back in my Sony a7iii days with my 35mm lens, 1/250 second, f/5.6, ISO 1000. I might have sprinkled a few extra stars (and snow??) into the sky in edits...don't tell anyone. 😉

This time of year, it feels like someone hits fast forward and all of the sudden we've sped from Labor Day to the holidays. The air has already cooled the slightest bit, especially in the evenings. And while it's still probably a little early for even the Halloween decorations that are everywhere, it doesn't feel wrong to dip our toes into Christmas every once in a while.

So here, my friend, is the first ever holiday season shot on Thousand Circles.
