Single-Day Series: To the Lighthouse (October 6th)

If you've been around for awhile, you know I’ve included the Yacht Club resort launch lighthouse in countless pictures. It’s a staple view on property and there are dozens of picturesque angles on it. That said, after months and months of dropping daily pictures here, I hadn’t yet covered this one classic sightline—straight down the middle of the walkway with BoardWalk in the distant background over Crescent Lake.

It’s long overdue since it’s easily one of the most recognizable views on property…and perhaps I hadn’t included it because I didn’t feel like I’d done it justice yet. The symmetry would be off. The sky would be boring. There would be people all over it.

I’m not saying I won’t return to this scene one day. (In fact, I'm sure I will.) But for the first time, at dawn one morning very recently, I was happy with the shot. A clear sky at sunrise. BoardWalk so crisp in the distance that you could read the signage on the restaurants. Shadows of rope strewn perfectly across a symmetrical, otherwise empty walkway. And a single Friendship Boat slowly pulling away with the wedding pavilion behind it.

My settings here were simple enough: 50mm, f/2.8 to soften the foreground, 1/1000 second to tamp down the resulting light, and ISO 100.
