Some pictures are newer. Some pictures are older. Yesterday's was hot off the presses so today I thought we'd change it up with a bit of a throwback.
Years ago, Disney put on a fabulous after hours event called Villain's Night. Magic Kingdom was transformed into something much more dark and sinister and as a part of it all they brought out this pretty girl in the dark of night. Heavy metal music played as she made her way to the castle and down Main Street and her silhouette against the night sky was incredible. I have a series of pictures of her from that night and this is one of my personal favorites.
It's been waiting all of this time to come out, and today she finally has her moment.
It makes me all the more excited for what might be when Villains Land opens behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
This shot was all about gathering what little light was available while still capturing her in motion. I had my 50mm lens, which opens wide to f/1.2, and my ISO cranked up to 2500. This let me drop my shutter speed at least to 1/250 sec. (It didn't need to be too too fast—she was moving, but relatively slowly. Still, I wanted to freeze both her and her fire in time.) Then I lifted the darkness a bit more and dealt with the bit of noise from that ISO in edits. The result looks almost surreal, which is fitting for the subject.
