You know how when you say a word over and over again, it starts to lose its meaning? That's sort of how I feel when I look at a giraffe. The more I stare, the less real it seems like they could be. They're typically a full 6 feet tall at birth and walking within the hour. Fully grown, they tower 14-19 feet above the ground with massive 25 lb hearts to handle circulation throughout their bodies. They can sprint at 35 miles per hour and their kick can kill a lion.

Over millenia, giraffes have represented everything from flexibility to far-sightedness to femininity, fragility, passivity, grace, and beauty—not to mention their native continent of Africa itself. Life-sized etchings of them have been found in stone from as much as 8,000 years ago. There's no shortage of folklore about their origins.

Taken on Safari at around 280mm, 1/800 seconds to compensate for the moving vehicle and distance, f/6.3, ISO 800. He was just a part of the distant scenery.
