Single-Day Series: Space (February 25th)

A break from our cruise photographs to share something from our visit to Magic Kingdom over the weekend. When we went on Sunday, it was just to get out of the house for a bit. The weather was beautiful and crowds were the lowest I can remember seeing them in recent months...lots of attractions at 5, 10, or 15 minutes. I didn't think days like that existed anymore, much less on weekends.

Tyson bumped into friends as we were exiting Space Mountain through the gift shop and so we all walked over to Speedway, which had a posted 5 minute wait. He rode with someone from his theater class while I rode with Maddox. We got car 71, which felt like good luck.

If you've been around here for a while, you know I've effectively watched my kids grow up on Speedway. Tall enough to ride, tall enough to drive, tall enough to ride alone. Maddox has gone from barely reaching the pedals to 6 feet tall and hitting the gas for the full length of the attraction more easily than I can. So I rode shotgun with my camera in my hand while he drove, complaining that the car in front of us was going too slow, while I snapped away.

It felt like a new sort of core memory.

Taken at 50mm, 1/320 second to steady the shot in the moving car, f/1.2 to drink in the quickly diminishing light at sunset and soften the foreground, ISO 100.
