Single-Day Series: Shaman (February 26th)

I can't tell you how excited I was to list this photograph. It's such a challenge to capture while you're moving in the dark, and it's such an important scene.

When you're riding this attraction, the whole thing builds to this one song, "sung" by one of the most incredible animatronics ever made. We actually talk about it at length on the recent episode of WDW Radio about the music of Disney's Animal Kingdom, which you can give a listen right here. For all of the beauty of Na'vi River Journey, I'd argue—like I did on that show—that the entire attraction comes down to this reveal.

Not surprisingly, everything about this shot came down to maximizing light in the dark. It was taken at 50mm, wide open at f/1.2, and 1/100 sec in a moving boat. ISO landed at a whopping 10000—and then I dealt with the resulting noise in edits.
