Single-Day Series: Sassagoula Steamboat Company (October 10th)

It’s been a minute since we stopped by Port Orleans Riverside, and I thought we were overdue. So when I went for a run there last week, I took advantage of the sunrise to grab my camera from the car and take a few pictures of the water wheel outside the Sassagoula Steamboat Company.

This whole area, from the river that winds through the resort connecting it to French Quarter, to this main area, feels a world away from the parks. The resort was designed to capture the easy rhythm of Louisiana, split between the stately white-column mansions of Magnolia Bend and the rustic cottages of Alligator Bayou, designed to evoke the villages of rural Southern Louisiana.

I love how the light always catches the water wheel at sunrise. It’s one of those corners of Disney that still reminds me how far it goes when this much care goes into the little details, even in the places that are just meant as a place to rest and breathe between long park days.
