Single-Day Series: Sakura (March 7th)

Japan has been a big part of my life since I studied the language in college and lived and worked and wrote my thesis on the southernmost of the large islands, Kyushu.

They have a way of looking at things that's equal parts practical and magical.

Take the cherry blossom, or sakura in Japanese. They don’t love these delicate flowers in spite of their transience, but in large part because of it. They represent the fleeting nature of all things. Of life itself. Of stopping to appreciate things in the moment because life is short and beauty fades.

True to form, I took this photograph a couple of weeks ago at EPCOT—f/2.5, 1/1250 sec, ISO 100. I was back a few days ago and looked up and they were gone.

I hesitated to share this because it’s not really "Disney" even if I did take it there. It’s not really anywhere at all. But today it felt right. They are gone now, but a few weeks ago they looked this beautiful and I'm glad I have something to remember them by beyond my imperfect memory.

The perfect subject for a single-day photograph. It was an honor to share it with you.
