When I capture images for Thousand Circles, I'm thinking about the prettiest views and unique angles and all the usual photographer stuff...but I'm also thinking about what scenes speak to us the most. Which ones mean enough to hang on your wall and see every day. And for me, simple as this image is, it's up there at the top. That first look as you walk into the Polynesian with these lush waterscapes on either side, torches burning, island music playing, a Cast Member ready to don you in a lei. I can hear this picture, smell this picture, and just plain feel this picture.
I took this over the weekend when I stopped over at the resort with my mother for a bit of lunch at Wailulu. Taken at 35mm, shutter speed slowed to 1/6 second to capture the flow of the water, f/2.0 to soften the foreground, and ISO 50 to cut the resulting exposure.
