Doing a good old-fashioned Wild Wednesday today with a return to Kilimanjaro Safaris. I love riding this time of year. The weather is cooler and the animals are so active.
These are white rhinos—the largest rhino species on Earth. That truck tucked into the background is a nice little pop of color…but it’s also there for scale. At 4,000-5,000 pounds, adults are basically living pickup trucks. And they can move like one, too. It feels impossible looking at them but they can run up to 30-35 mph for short bursts. A bit of respect from those of us heading into Marathon Weekend…because that’s a two-minute mile.
I took this last week on Safari with the kids while they were still on winter break. I usually have a superzoom lens on that attraction but was shooting with my 50mm that day and enjoying taking in whole landscapes like this one. The vehicle was bouncing all over the place so I had my shutter speed cranked up to 1/1000 second and my aperture opened to f/4.0 to gather a little more light. ISO landed at 200.
