A proper sighting of the hyenas on Kilimanjaro Safaris is rare. They’re often tucked away or sleeping, just out of sight. But this one was up and about and moving slowly enough for me to find it with my 400mm lens.
I know hyenas get a bad rap, especially after The Lion King, but they’re survivors and I can get behind that. Spotted hyenas, like this one, are also matriarchal. The females tend to be larger and more dominant than their male counterparts.
Shot this at around 400mm, 1/500 seconds, and f/8, with ISO still landing at 800 since we had bright sunlight.
