Sometimes it's the big stuff that gets us in the feels...and sometimes it's something small that just feels like home. Today, let's do something small.

These are the little touches that make Main Street so special. Walt loved all animals and had a special love for horses and what they did to hearken back to simpler times. There are little touches of them everywhere in his parks.

What's most interesting to me about these "hitching posts" on the Hub on Main Street is that they're painted in "Go Away Green"—the color that Disney famously uses because of its ability to be dismissed and disappear. What's remarkable about Go Away Green isn't how pretty it is, but how good it is at making you ignore it and look elsewhere.

So why paint a detail this color? It's almost like they don't want us to notice them too much. Don't overthink them. Just a bit of negative space that takes your mind back to simpler times. Like the lighting on Main Street that slowly modernizes as you make your way toward the Castle, or the music loops, or the very deliberate smells...they're touches that aren't meant to shout at you. Just subliminal nods to put you in a good mental space when you're here.

Shot with my 50mm, f/1.2 to make everything else fall way, 1/2500 seconds, ISO 100.
