We're back at the Grand today, looking out over the water at Big Pine Key. This has always been one of my favorite DVC spots—away from the bustle of the main building but not too far away of a walk, with views directly over Seven Seas Lagoon when you have a room on this side of the building. The entry area is so pretty that I've been known to duck in during photoshoots to give my subjects a break from the heat and take a few portraits indoors.

I took a drive over around sunset over the weekend to take a breath after the chaos of last week and caught this view at sunset. If ever a photograph felt like a deep breath to me, it's this one, and I needed it. Thought you might too.

I love what my Leica does with the colors in this spot. The way the lines are half crisp and half dreamy. The way the colors pop, reds and whites and greens and blues. Normally I never leave a person in sight in these, but I deliberately left the hint of one anonymous woman on her balcony—with just enough of a blur to be able to pretend it might be any of us.

No real magic to these camera settings. The view did all of the work. Taken at about a 40mm equivalent on the Leica D-Lux 8, 1/1250 second, f/5.6, ISO 200. Massaged into its current form in edits after.
