Happy Valentine’s Day if you celebrate! And if not, just a happy day to you. ;)
To be honest, flamingos used to be very much not my thing. I think I equated them with tacky postcards and plastic lawn ornaments. And honestly I don't know if that's lessened or if I'm just more into tacky postcards and plastic lawn ornaments these days. Probably a little of both. But for whatever reason, I love the flamingos on Safari and I also love this picture. And I'm sharing it with you today because Maddox saw it and pointed out that it would be perfect because they are pink and today is Valentine's Day. Seemed like a good enough reason to me.
Took this with my 100-400mm zoomed all the way to 400mm. We were, of course, in a moving vehicle (quaharini!), so I upped my shutter speed to 1/500 sec. Aperture would only go to f/6.3 at 400mm but I think it was plenty since there was a decent amount of separation between the birds and the background. ISO was set to automatic within a safe range and landed at 250.
If you squint your eyes their necks sort of make a heart.
