This lion-tailed macaque at Animal Kingdom has eyes that feel almost unmistakably human. We share a common ancestor that lived around 25-30 million years ago, and they still share roughly 93-95% of our DNA. There's a quiet intelligence in them—with advanced problem-solving skills, emotional expression, and social intelligence that allows them to reconcile after conflict, a skill we could learn from these days.
In Indian folklore, their calm, dignified ways make them symbols of wisdom and restraint. Sadly, they’re now one of the world’s rarest primates, with fewer than 4,000 left in the wild—so it’s an honor to see them up close like this.
