If you’ve spent any time at Disney Springs, you’ll know this guy. But did you know he has a name? Brickley has been around for more than 25 years—longer than practically anything else around him. He's had quite a view as Disney Springs changed identities countless times around him.
Apparently he hangs out around more than one LEGO flagship store around the world, but the one that I’ve remembered for as long as I can remember is this version, emerging from Lake Buena Vista. He supposedly consists of more than 170,000 LEGO bricks and I’ve spent more hours than I care to admit staring at him while the kids played with the LEGOs and race tracks outside the store’s main exit.
I was shooting with my 50mm this night, which was good because it’s my quickest lens and I wanted lots of light and lots of bokeh (those blurry orbs of light in the background). I opened it all of the way to f/1.2 and dropped my shutter speed to 1/50—letting me get a bit of extra light but still handhold the camera and capture Brickley’s block-by-block details. ISO cranked itself up to 4000, which was fine. My camera can handle as much as 20,000 or more before things start to get really noisy.
Anyway, technicalities aside, I think he's pretty cool.
