My family always stays at BoardWalk for the marathon weekend races while I stay at the house and zero in. It’s where we own our DVC and a great location for them since the 10K and marathon both go right by the building. This weekend they had a BoardWalk view all the way down in the Crest of the Wave area. I wasn’t able to spend much time there with them while I was running but on Monday night, after the races and before they checked out, we spent the evening together in the room and, even though the air was chilly, I spent some time on the balcony with my Leica.
Because it was cold out and fairly late, the view was unusually empty of people. Just a calm view around Crescent Lake. I snapped a few photos focusing on the simple view along the water and the strings of lights surrounding it. I often find myself leaning into a retro vibe at BoardWalk just because of the theme of that area and this was no exception. The colors, the grain, the bright lights: all embraced as just a part of what I actually saw.
Like I said, I was on the Leica D-Lux 8—my handy little travel companion—and shooting at a 32mm equivalent, 1/60 second, f/2.3, and ISO 3200, all aimed at gathering light in the darkness. I wasn’t worried about tack sharp focus or a little noise in the shot. I just wanted to capture how it felt looking out on that quiet scene after the chaos of running along it all weekend. I’ve taken so many pictures of BoardWalk from ground level, focusing on the multi-colored DVC buildings. It was nice to get this fresh perspective from above, looking out on the older, white BoardWalk Inn buildings.
