Single-Day Series: Beachy (July 25th)

I’ve been wanting to do something with Beach Club’s gorgeous facade for so long. Full disclosure, they’re doing some serious construction right now at the front and back main entrances, but this view is still just fine.

We recently spent a couple of spontaneous nights in a villa here. (We own some DVC with my mom from before we were local and will sometimes do a little staycation when they’re in town.) I woke up at sunrise one morning, brushed my teeth, threw my camera over my shoulder, and headed out to the Boardwalk. I must have spent 45 minutes out there taking pictures…and you’ll see some of them soon I’m sure.

But then I went back to our room and walked out onto the bedroom balcony and: THIS.

Looking out across the courtyard over the Solarium and the rest of the main building, the sun was hitting everything just right. My Sony wasn’t close by so I grabbed my Leica and snapped a handful of shots. One of those, and not the ones I spent 45 minutes gathering at sunrise with my Sony, is what got picked first to close out this week.

Disney’s Beach Club Resort opened back in November 1990. Designed by architect Robert A.M. Stern, it’s themed after a New England seaside resort from the late 19th century and is pretty as a picture in photographs.

Like I mentioned, this was with the Leica (the D-Lux 8), not my Sony. Settings were 23mm, f/4.0, 1/2000 seconds, ISO 200.
