I try not to inundate you with birds, but I love them so much and there are so many opportunities to spend time with them at Disney.
This one is a Great Myna (or Common Hill Myna), a type of starling found in South and Southeast Asia, so a perfect member of the aviary on the Maharaja Jungle Trek in the Asia section of DAK where I captured this.
Having the opportunity to see them up close like this is so rare and cool. These birds are famous for their incredible mimicry—they can imitate human voices and sounds more clearly than even parrots. But their speaking ability has caused them to be threatened in some regions. The voices that make them so exceptional also make them victims of the pet trade, so it’s good to see them safe and protected here.
I was wandering the aviary with my 100-400mm when I took this. Settings were about 200mm, 1/640 second to capture birds in flight, f/6.3, ISO 12800. This Myna wasn't sitting still long enough for me to drop my shutter speed, but the ISO capabilities of the Sony a7R V made that 12800 work out just fine.
